My talk is about two studies that deal with “mismatch.” The basic idea behind mismatch theory is that aspects of the modern environment are incongruent (mismatched) with our psychology and physiology, which are more adapted to the environment in which we evolved—the savannas of East Africa. I focus on two research projects. The first is an experiment that looked at the effects of the presence of a companion animal (a dog) on behaviours and attitudes in de novo work teams. The second study looked at the effects of sunlight and greenery exposure on mental health and job attitudes in the workplace. We are beginning a study on corruption in organizations.
